Bring your cell phone and learn about a new app that will let you see images of old Newburgh based on their locations in our present day streets. (A Path Through History Event)

Urban Archive started in New York City in 2016 by making a few hundred archival photographs from three collections available on an iphone app. Today, the nonprofit platform features more than 80,000 geolocated images from more than two dozen organizations.

Newburgh is the first expansion for Urban Archive outside of New York City. Local institutions have begun to make their rich photographic collections publicly accessible utilizing Urban Archive’s digital platform. Initial institutional partners are the Historical Society, the Newburgh Free Library, and the City Historian. Download the app to your iphone, and you can view about 200 historic images mapped to locations in the historic district of Newburgh.

At the launch event, we will guide new users on how to access the app and the Newburgh sites, as well as discuss the background of how this project came to be, and how it works behind the scene.
