Trolleys of Orange County

July 17, 2016 2pm.

Ray Kelly of the O&W Railway Historical Society will talk about the trolley systems of Orange County, a means of transportation that bridged the gap between the horse and machines powered by internal combustion engines. In this presentation, the audience will take a virtual ride on the trolley between Newburgh and Walden, and then Middletown to Goshen, using photos taken between 1886 and 1925 as well as photos of the present.

From the NY State Thruway, take exit 17 (Newburgh) and take the ramp to go east on the Interstate 84. Take Interstate 84 east to exit 10. At the light, make an immediate right and get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco Station. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Grand Street. Continue past three stop signs. The Newburgh Heritage Center (also known as the Old Niven Courthouse) will be on your right. The parking lot is just ahead on the left.

From points West, take Interstate 84 east to exit 10. At the light, make an immediate right and get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco Station. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Grand Street. Continue past three stop signs. From points East, take Interstate 84 west to Exit 10s (second exit past the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge). Stay to your right off the ramp and follow it until you come to the traffic light at Route 9W (the Alexis Diner is on the left). Make a right on to Route 9W, and continue south. Get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco Station at the second light. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Grand Street. Continue past three stop signs. The Newburgh Heritage Center (also known as the Old Niven Courthouse) will be on your right. The parking lot is just ahead on the left.
