The Newburgh Historical Society’s annual Candlelight Tour features thirteen decorated homes including a diverse assortment of public and private spaces - mansions, structures in the rehabilitation process, new construction, architectural gems, and some of Newburgh’s most important landmarks. For years, community members within the second largest historic district in New York State have generously decorated and opened their homes to visitors in support of local history.

2015 Candlelight Tour BookletA guide booklet and a custom map will be provided to add historical context and enrich the visitor experience. The booklet includes a history of each home on the tour, information about the Society, and acknowledgments and announcements from individual supporters and business underwriters.

Italian irregular villaFor 35 years we have included a diverse assortment of architectural treasures the area has to offer. This tour spans the architectural histories of the 18th to 20th centuries, showcasing fine restorations, creative renovations, adaptive re-use, works in prograss and intriguing personal collections. One design featured in landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing's book, "Cottage Residences."

This tour is the Historical Society’s major fundraiser. The money raised is applied towards the preservation of the Crawford House that is undergoing some extensive renovations, including a recently completed top-to-bottom painting of the house’s exterior.

Use this address for the GPS: 189 Montgomery Street, Newburgh, NY 12550

From the NY State Thruway, take exit 17 (Newburgh) and take the ramp to go east on the Interstate 84. Take Interstate 84 east to exit 10. At the light, make an immediate right and get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco Station. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Montgomery Street. The Crawford House will be on the right, located at 189 Montgomery Street.

From points West, take Interstate 84 east to exit 10. At the light, make an immediate right and get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco gas station. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Montgomery Street. The Crawford House will be on the right, located at 189 Montgomery Street.

From points East, take Interstate 84 west to Exit 10s (second exit past the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge). Stay to your right off the ramp and follow it until you come to the traffic light at Route 9W (the Alexis Diner is on the left). Make a right on to 9W, and get into the left lane in front of the Sunoco gas station. Make a left on to North Plank Road. Follow the street down the hill, through two traffic lights, and make a right on to Montgomery Street. The Crawford House will be on the right, located at 189 Montgomery Street.
