A Call to Artists
2010 Feast of the Arts Biennial Fine Art Auction SUNDAY, APRIL 25, Preview 2pm-4pm, Live Auction 4pm To benefit the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands
Dear Artist,
We are excited about this year’s Feast of the Arts and hope you are excited about participating.
This year we will be hosted by Newburgh’s Historic West Shore Train Station. Anyone who has ever driven through Newburgh along the river has surely admired this stately old brick train station. Well she’s on her way back to a new and modern life and we have been welcomed into this imposing and elegant interior for our Biennial Fine Art event.
This year’s auction will be a little different (and even more fun we hope).
There will be three components to the event:
Each artist may submit only one piece to each of the three sections. Please note, no diptych/triptych or series art--one hook = one piece of art.
ONE - A Chinese Auction (Penny Social) - Collectors will bid by placing pre-purchased tickets into a jar in front of each piece and the ticket that is drawn from the jar will win the bid. This section is not juried. Application
- Pieces submitted for the Chinese Auction must be 5x7 or smaller.
- Three dimensional art for this section must be less than 7 inches in any direction.
- Framing is encouraged but not required for this section.
- This submission represents a full donation by the artist (no split). All proceeds will go to support the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands (HSNBH).
- Artists who submit a piece to the Chinese auction will be given one free admission ticket to the event.
TWO - A Silent Auction - Each work of art is accompanied by a bid sheet where collectors may bid by placing their bidder number in the next available bid slot (increment). This section is not juried. Application
- Artists may set a minimum bid of up to $200.
- Artists will split final bid 50/50 with HSNBH (example - if highest bid is $280 artist will receive $140)
- Artwork with no bids will be returned to artists.
- Artwork must be “ready to hang”
THREE - A Live Auction -This is the standard type of auction with a live auctioneer calling the bidding. This component of the auction will be juried by a committee. Application
- Artists will split hammer price 50/50 with HSNBH.
- NEW! Submissions must be delivered to the Crawford House or a drop-off site by April 6th, 2010. [Due to an unforeseen change in the jury, original pieces will be juried, not jpeg/electronic submissions.]
- Artists may set a reserve (minimum bid). There will be a reserve fee of 10% due at the time the work is recieved.(example - reserve is set at $300, fee is $30. The auctioneer will not sell piece below $300 if piece sells for $400 artist gets $200). Reserve fees are not refundable.
- This live section of the auction will be restricted to a small number of pieces in order to facilitate the timing of the event.
- Artwork must be “ready to hang”
Any artists participating in the event may purchase up to two tickets at half price.
